His suggestion a soothing cup of chamomile tea can aid anxiety and an upset stomach
Meaning:
The name chamomile comes from the Greek word meaning ground apple.
Background: Flavor and Plant Feature
It’s a low growing plant that has little flower that smell kinda applely so it has a really nice flavor. In fact, that flavor of chamomile is so pleasant that it’s considered to be one of the most popular herbal teas drunk in the entire world.
Considering that chamomile tastes so good and has such a wide range of gentle but effective uses, this is an herb that I would think everybody would wanna have in their kitchen cabinet.
Medicinal Purpose:
There are two basic reasons why people drink chamomile tea aside from it’s flavor.
1. One is to soothe their stomachs.
2. Another reason is that it’s a very mild, safe, effective sleep aid.
Efficacy Clinical Research
Not only do we have the historical, traditional uses, but at the same time we have some modern, scientific, clinical research that suggest that chamomile has sedative properties.
3. Wounds
There’s a whole other sign of chamomile which is it’s external use. The German government recognizes the uses of certain chamomile extracts to help treat certain kinds of skin wounds, and other kinds of skin problems
Preparation:
Probably the best products, teas, and maybe even extracts and other products made from chamomile would be made solely from the flowering heads of the chamomile.
Finding Legit Chamomile
1. Pharmacopeia Designation:
An interesting tip from Mark about looking for the pharmacopeia designation on the label to make sure that you’re getting the best health benefit possible.
Some companies might indicate that their products meets certain pharmacopoeial standards like the European pharmacopoeia
or some other official compendium where certain kinds of standards or quality are designated.
Some products might go so far as contain pharmacopoeial quality chamomile flowering heads.
And if that’s the case, then a consumer can identify that on the package as being saying ‘chamomile flowers, USP’ or ‘chamomile flowers, PhEur’.
2. Certifications
It’s also good if the tea you’re drinking was organically grown and certified by the USDA.
