It’s normal to be stressed at work. Some, however, are highly stressed with their job, while others experience eustress or a healthy kind of stress.
Though it seems almost impossible to find a stress-free job, you can still find low-stress work.
Finding a low-stress job
- Visit the workplace to observe if it’s the kind of environment you’d want to be in.
- Some details in a job post might sound intimidating at first. Words like
‘menial’ job, ‘crotchety’ boss, ‘odd’ hours, ‘hard’ work, must love ‘dirt’ can sound as if the job environment is unhealthy. Even though the description sounds odd, these details can be interesting because the setting could have been honestly written. Honesty in the workplace is a sign of a healthy and conscientious environment. - It’s nice to work for fair and non-judgmental employers because they provide room for improvement. Regardless of your limitations, they can allow you to prove yourself to work on a project, do a task, or fill a position. A humane environment is a healthy workplace to be in.
- If the job you’re applying for matches your interest, or have good memories of doing it, you’ll be more comfortable working. You might also find it enjoyable.
- If the job is something familiar to you but for some reason, you’re underqualified, adjusting to be qualified would be more tolerable to you. There’s no perfect job. If you genuinely like the work, and have intrinsic motivation to pursue it, and not just after the pay, your interest and appreciation in the job will outweigh its disadvantages.
Having an aligned interest with the job’s nature helps you to succeed in getting hired and enjoying the work because of a good fit.
Working it out
- You’ll be enthusiastic to get better if you really like your work. You’ll persevere to improve your skills to do your job well.
- Having a pleasant employer and colleagues makes the job lighter and more enjoyable. You feel more comfortable when you know that people around you are supportive and want what’s best for you.
- A workplace that welcomes humor can make the environment lighter and make the work easier and more doable.
- Promotions and incentive plans indicate that there’s growth in the company. These could motivate you to perform well because you know that you and your work can be valued, appreciated, and rewarded.
Longevity At Work
- If you’re comfortable in your work environment, you can stay longer in your job even if you have personal difficulties. You might even want to lounge there than anywhere else when you’re upset or distressed.
- Most employees look forward to their day off, but if you enjoy staying in your workplace, you wouldn’t mind going to work even on your rest days.
- Having an employer who’s really concerned about you and does not just see you as a worker only, seems to be ideal and rare. That’s why finding an employer and colleagues who can cheer you up or encourage you is really special. Gaining mutual trust and considering select colleagues as confidante, and an advisor in life would make it feel like you found a home in them.
Ergo, choose the kind of job that’s really good for you and can make you genuinely happy and content because having too much work stress can affect your health. Remember that it’s not just the prestige of a job that matters, but how happy and content you are.
