Quick Effect of Lavender and Chamomile Essential Oils On Depression, Stress and Anxiety

There are many reasons why old people experience depression and anxiety. Some are depressed because it takes time before they can see or communicate with their family, or they have to wait before they get to hear or receive messages from them. Old people look forward to connecting and bonding with their loved ones. At their age, this becomes one of the important sources of their joy. Ergo, old people diligently communicate or send messages to their loved ones. However, due to their relatives’ and family’s roles, jobs, and busy schedules, they cannot read and respond to their aged parents promptly at times. How about you, how’s your communication with your parents. Are you able to read the messages of your family members immediately?… Or does it take time before you can see it?

Communication is an important part of making the elderly happy. However, there are factors that we have no control over because of our responsibilities. Hence it is helpful to think of ways how to prevent and cure depression in cases where we can’t avoid what’s triggering it. Good thing that there are natural remedies that can help us manage depression and anxiety. The relaxing aroma of chamomile essential oil is helpful for the elderly’s emotional health. The participants were elderly aged at least 65 years old, who were recruited from the chosen community health centers in Iran’s urban area. The 183 participants were designated to either the control group or the experimental group which the latter was subdivided into lavender or chamomile groups. For 30 nights, both the participants in the experimental group inhaled three drops of the oil that was designated to them. Whereas the elderlies in the control group inhaled three drops of distilled water. Participants were assessed at baseline, immediately after the intervention, and one month after the intervention. Findings yielded that compared to the control group, lavender, and chamomile groups had improved conditions immediately and one month after the intervention condition.
